Get In My Belly!

Have you ever made a concoction out of the blue and turns out that this meal has come to be one of your favorite go to meals? Well I have and I am going to share it with you today. This meal is gluten free and guilt free, super healthy, and takes just minutes to make.

What You Need:

Cooked Quinoa
Veggies of your choice (I kept it simple and used zucchinni and onion)
Garlic (to taste)
Coconut oil
Feta
Tomatoes
1 Egg (cook the egg to your liking ex. Over easy, sunny side up, I made it poached)
Hot Sauce (optional)




What You Do:

Get a pan and warm up enough coconut oil to coat the bottom of your pan
Throw in your chopped onions and cook until they are translucent
Add fresh garlic
Add veggies. Like I mentioned earlier I kept it easy and just threw in some zucchini
Cook until soft
Once veggies are soft, transfer them over to your plate
Add sliced tomatoes on top, a sprinkle of your pre cooked quinoa and a touch of feta
Add your egg to the top of that and drizzle some hot sauce over it to taste.

It's as easy as that! A quick and healthy home cooked meal that I am sure you are going to love.

Round 2 Recipe


Do you have leftover bread or biscuits and don't want to throw it away but tired of eating it the same boring way? Well here is a recipe to spice it up and it works with most breads (Italian, challah, sourdough, wheat...)

Janes Sweets & Baking Journal: breakfast breads - egg bread,Challah  #Bread

Take half a loaf of bread and cut it into 1 inch slices (you can use pre-sliced sandwich bread too)
Lay the slices in a greased baking dish (it's okay of the bread overlaps a little)

In a medium bowl mix:
2eggs
1cup heavy cream (or milk if you don't have cream)
1/4 cup sugar
1tablespoon of cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
Pour mixture over sliced bread
Let bread soak in fridge overnight

The next day preheat oven to 350 degrees
In a small bowl mix together 2 tablespoons cold butter cut up small
1/4 cup brown sugar
2tablespoons flour- lightly mix (mixture should be lumpy)
Crumble mixture over bread
Bake for 45 minutes or until golden brown

Top with butter, syrup, and fruit if desired and enjoy!

Quinoa....quin-who?

As of recently I have begun the transition into a gluten free diet. Everyone that I have come across that is gluten free has nothing but wonderful things to say about it. They feel better, look better, and these days it is easier to go gluten free since most items are marked gluten free on their packaging. As I have done my research into this new diet adventure, I noticed that one of my main staples would be quinoa. If you haven't heard of quinoa yet you are bound to hear about it soon. The past few years it's popularity has increased and it's health benefits are pretty hard to beat. Quinoa contains iron, B vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, vitamin E, and fiber. Consuming 2 to 3 servings of whole grain foods can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, colon cancer, and obesity to name a few.
Now that you know the benefits of quinoa, I'm going to show you the quickest and easiest way to make it. 

What You Need:
1 cup quinoa
1 1/2 cups water
Salt to taste

What You Do:
Rinse quinoa in a strainer
Put rinsed quinoa in a skillet and put it on medium heat
Stir quinoa around in skillet until dried (about 3-5 minutes)
Add water and salt and turn heat to medium/low. Put lid on skillet
Tilt lid to the side so that steam can escape
Continue cooking without stirring for 15-18 minutes or until water is absorbed.
Fluff with a fork and serve!

It's that easy! So go out there, grab some quinoa and get to healthy cookin!

A Special Treat For Your 4 Legged Friend!

Instead of focusing on us humans today, we are going to show you a super easy, cheap, and healthy recipe for your little four legged friend that we know they are going to love. These all natural treats only have four ingredients that you probably already have laying around the house and will cost you pennies! Check 'em out!

Peanut Butter Dog Treats:

What you need-
2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 cup water
3 cups flour


What you do-
Mix all ingredients in a bowl to form a dough
Roll out dough and use a cookie cutter or roll them into balls and flatten them out like a pancake
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes
And that's it!!
Wait for your treats to cool and them let your little fur ball enjoy! My pups ate these up like there was no tomorrow!

Easter Leftovers


Most holiday dinners leave you with tons of leftovers that no one usually wants to eat the same way for the next few nights in a row... So how do you change it up? Make a wreath!!!

Super simple, and great for just about all left overs.

What do you need?
-left over food
-2 containers of crescent rolls (I prefer Pillsbury)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Pop open crescent rolls
Lay triangles on cookie sheet with pointed ends facing out and longer ends overlapping
Spoon in filling
Fold in pointed ends
Brush top with melted butter
Bake for 10-20 min or until golden brown

Filling ideas
- if you have left over ham, do a ham and cheese wreath: in medium bowl mix together cubed ham, cheese, mayo
- our Easter dinner is more of a thanksgiving style dinner- my wreath will consist of: turkey, stuffing, cranberries, chicken broth
-works great with left over chicken wing dip, taco dip and artichoke dip
- pizza wreath: mozzarella cheese, red sauce, possibly pepperoni or ground beef
-shepherds pie wreath- ground beef, mashed potatoes, corn or other veggie

Leftovers "Round Two"

 

As spring arrives you may want one last comfort meal, and if that go-to meal is chili, I have a round two idea for you!

Round one: Chili


Round two: Chili Enchiladas-
What you need-
Left over chili
White rice (prepared as instructed)
Tortilla wraps
Cheddar cheese
Green peppers (optional)

Directions-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Fill the tortillas with white rice and chili, close wraps
Place wraps in a baking dish
Top with more chili, cheddar cheese, and green peppers
Bake for 20-25 min, or until warmed through

Home Myth Busting

Today I am Myth Busting! As of recently I have tried quite a few tips and tricks that I have heard of but never really put to the test. Today I am bringing you five of these little nuggets of wisdom and letting you know, is it a myth or a fact?

Rub a sliced onion over hives to relieve the itching!

1.) Naturally make your grill non stick with 1/2 of an onion.
 I couldn’t believe this worked! All you have to do to make your grill non-stick is cut an onion in half and rub the cut side on the heated grill grate, throw your goodies on the grill and get to grilling...no stick no problem! Conclusion: FACT

Rubbing Alcohol Use it to: Erase permanent-marker stains from finished wood floors or solid-surface countertops. Pour rubbing alcohol onto a cotton ball and apply

2.) Use rubbing alcohol to remove stains from microfiber.
Need: 1 white sponge and 1 white bristle scrubber
           rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle
 
 
To Do: SATURATE the stained area 
            Take your sponge and start scrubbing the area hard.
            Let the sprayed areas dry after you are done scrubbing
           Once the couch is COMPLETELY dry, use the bristle brush make swirling motions to refluff 
           the areas you cleaned.
Conclusion: FACT Your microfiber couch or chair will look good as new!
 
10 Reasons Lemon Juice Is Good For You - Because of its high potassium content, lemon controls high blood pressure, dizziness, and nausea, and provides relaxation to mind and body.   Lemon has antiseptic and styptic properties, so it can stop internal bleeding. For instance, you can put some lemon on a cotton ball and apply it to the inside of your nose to stop a nose bleed.
 
 3.) Get hard water stains off of your tub faucet.
 This one was super easy. All you do is rub a 1/2 of a lemon over your facet in a scrubbing like motion until water stains are gone.
Conclusion: FACT!
 
Kitchen Champion:Windex Multi-Surface Vinegar  The only cleanser ($3.26 for 26 oz., amazon.com) that completely removed dirt from stainless steel, laminate, and a painted wall. We found that it required a few extra strokes to thoroughly clean glass, but it left little streaking; it also eliminated grease fast. Contains vinegar — though not its pungent smell.
 
4.) Clean windows with newspaper for no streaks.
Wad up a ball of newspaper like you would paper towels and use that to wipe up the windex you spray onto the window.
This leaves your windows and mirrors streak free and spotless (and you save money on paper towels)
Conclusion: FACT.

5.) Get marker off of your wood floors.
Put a dab of white toothpaste on the marker.
Then rub like a mad woman with a damp washcloth or microfiber cloth.
Conclusion: Surprisingly enough....FACT

Time Saving Tips - Vaccuuming!

We all look for ways to save time, especially when it comes to cleaning, so here is one of my time saving tips for cleaning.

When you break out the vacuum use it to clean EVERYTHING! Who said vacuums are just for carpets?
 

Dyson Vaccuum -- Breast Cancer Edition.. i am SO going to get this eventually!! Babe can deal with using a pink vaccuum lol
 
-No time to go outside and brush the dog? Vacuum him! It may take some time to get your dog to like this, but once they do it's totally worth it. They may even enjoy it!

-Vacuum your blinds. I hate cleaning the blinds on my windows, so to keep them clean I attach the brush to the vacuum hose n run it over them to keep the dust away. (This also works on all upholstery such as your couch and even mattress)

-Vacuum out the lint trap in your dryer. Not only does this help to keep it clean, but it may help in preventing fires. (Please make sure you always clean your lint trap after each load)

-Vacuum away spider webs. If you already have the vacuum out why not use it to clean the walls and ceilings, especially those corners that can collect dust and webs.
 
-Dropped jewelry or another valuable item under a heavy piece of furniture? Place panty hose tightly around the circular mouth of the hose with a rubber band and vacuum away under that dresser! The vacuum will suck up the item you are reaching for and the panty hose will prevent it from being sucked up for good!
 
Special Tip: Vacuum starting to smell a little stinky? Throw a few Downy Unstoppables in the bag and your house will smell like fresh laundry every time you vacuum!

4.) Yard Sale!! Don't just save money, make money! During your seasonal house cleaning go through each room and make a "garbage" pile and a "yard sale" pile. It's amazing how much stuff you hoard during the winter months and don't even realize. Hold a yard sale and whatever is left over you can either sell on eBay or donate!

5.) Plant a garden! Think of how much you can save on fresh produce! It doesn't have to be huge but plant a few items that you know you will use. Start out with a small garden and work your way up each year. I plant a garden every year and the amount of tomatoes alone that I yield each time is astounding and a huge money saver!!

Tips For Friday

So yesterday on my train ride home from work I was searching through Pinterest and came across a pin that linked me to the 1000lifehacks website. As I scrolled through these "life hacks" I couldn't help but wonder if these were actually true or not. Here are a few that I found quite interesting.
 

 
1) I may have to download this app just to see if it is true or not.
2) Am I the only one who did not know this in regards to the traffic signs? I mean I follow my GPS but there has been a time or 10 or 2 where I have gotten off at the wrong exit, this could have definitely helped!
3) Never tried this but I may have to do a beauty Myth Buster post on this since summer is right around the corner!
4) If you are trying to quit smoking, this is definitely worth a shot, right!?
 

 
1) This will absolutely keep clothes that are in drawers folded and neat, rather that thrown all over the place because the shirt that you want is all the way at the bottom of the drawer....doing this!
2) Totally worth downloading this app just in case. Better safe than sorry. This could work great if you are going for a late night run or even walking through the mall parking lot at night.
3) Why not give it a shot?! Free is for me!
4) Oh no, no limit tortillas at Chipotle?! They obviously have never met me before!

1.) Again, coupons, free? I love those two words. I'll take it!
2) I have tried this with the paint tray and it works as long as you use one full sheet of tin foil and attach it nice and snug. There may be a few drips and drops on the actual tray when you are done painting but it is a whole lot easier to clean up.
3)I have done this with my phone, and it works.
4) I am going to have to try this the next time I buy flight tickets!

1) Ran out of black ink for your printer at the most inconvenient time? Turn your text color to dark tan if you don't have time to run out to the store to buy a new ink cartridge!
2) I plan on taking a lot of road trips this summer. I see this app coming in handy!

Crock Pot Monkey Bread

 
 
Today I am going to show you a very delicious and simple recipe that I remember baking with my mom as a kid.
Not only do you probably already have most of these ingredients lying around the house but it's made in the Crock Pot, so all you have to do is combine all of the ingredients, throw it in your pot, and enjoy the heavenly aroma until it's time to indulge!
 
 
Ingredients
1 tube Biscuits, I used Pillsbury Biscuits
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1/4 cup Margarine/butter, Melted
1 cup brown sugar
 
Directions
1. Cut biscuits into quarters
2. Dip biscuit pieces into melted butter
3. Put buttered biscuit pieces into the bowl of cinnamon and brown sugar and coat each of the pieces in the cinnamon and brown sugar.
4. Put the cinnamon and brown sugar coated pieces into your Crock Pot until you have all of the pieces layered in the crock pot. Pour the rest of the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture on top of the pieces that you placed in the Crock Pot.
5. Cook on low for 2 hours. Rotate a few of the top pieces to the bottom to make sure everything is evenly cooked. The pieces on the edges usually cook faster than the other pieces so just be sure to keep an eye on that.
6. Serve yourself a helping and try not to eat the whole batch in one sitting!

Myth Buster-Re Grow Veggies From Scraps

 

Myth buster:

Myth- I found on Pinterest that you can re grow certain foods by placing the roots in water in the sun, so I decided to give this a try

My experiment:
1) cut the leafy parts off Romain lettuce, placed it in a bowl of water
2) cut the roots off green onion, placed them in a bowl of water

Results:
Within just a few days both were growing!!!! The picture is just a few days after I put the veggies in water.

Myth=busted! And it works :)

Frames For Your Face!

With summer rapidly approaching (I hope!), it is about that time to start whipping out those shades and basking in the sun. But what do you do when you don't know which frames best fit your face? I know I've had this problem before and it use to take me forever to pick out a pair of frames that looked best on me. Well now just take a few notes on the below info and you will be set for summer fun in the sun!

A Heart Face:


When you have a heart shaped face your best bet is to go with a cateye, round, or wayfarer frame such as these:
