Friday Favorites

It's Friday as I am sure you know, which means 1. we are doing the happy dance right now and 2. it's time to kickoff the weekend with our Friday Favorites!

6 Ways To Get What You Want From Your Career


The dictionary defines career as follows:
ca·reer
kəˈrir/
noun
  1. 1.
    an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.


Note its definition states "with opportunity to progress." How are you suppose to progress though if you don't know what you are progressing towards, or how to even start progressing for that matter? Well that's what we are here for today! To help you get what you want from your career and move forward towards success!
Follow these 6 steps to get you on the right track.

1. Know what you want- This may sound like an obvious tip but you would be surprised to learn how many people don't know what they want from their career, or life in general. Take some time to sit down and really think about what it is that you want, what do you want to achieve? What is it that you want to work towards? 

2. Make a list of long and short term goals- Start out jotting down your long term goals, what you want as a result of your work in the long run. Next make a list of your short term goals, how you are going to reach those long term goals in a specific amount of given time.

3. Research- Research people and businesses who have achieved similar goals as the ones you have set for yourself. Read up on what struggles they had and how they got to where they are so that you are prepared and know what obstacles may lie in your path or maybe even how to avoid those obstacles and learn from their mistakes.

4. Network- Everyone that I have spoken to when they ask me what is the most important thing to keep in mind in the career that I have, I always say networking is a top priority. No matter what your career choice may be, networking will always help you in ways you may have never realized when you made that initial connection. Even if the person that you are networking with isn't directly related to your field, always keep that line of communication open. Give them your business card! You never know who they may know and you never know how you may be able to possibly help each other out in some way down the line. Which brings me to my next point.....

5. Create a networking/business card- These are always very important to have handy. Keep them in your purse, your wallet, and even in your car. You never know when opportunity will present itself. The last thing that you want is to be stuck in a great networking opportunity empty handed. Also make sure your cards are professional and represent you well. This is how people will remember"your brand."

6. Be confident- You know the saying "fake it till you make it?" Even if inside you are not feeling as confident as you would like, don't let others see that. Put on those big girl panties and give yourself a pep talk while you listen to some kick ass music to get yourself pumped up about your task and most importantly...YOURSELF! If you don''t believe in yourself, why and how should anyone else? 

Now go out there and get it gurl...and boy!

BBQ Turkey Cheddar Sliders


Hey hey! 
Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. 
I know here in NY it was snowy and cold which made for some really good recipe testing time. 
If you follow us on Instagram, you saw that we shared with you the above photo of tasty ooey gooey bbq turkey cheddar sliders that were devoured for dinner. 
Since they are made with chopped turkey I'd like to consider them a healthier slider option, and they are smaller than full size burgers so you don't feel all that bad stuffing your face with them. =)
Lets get cookin shall we?

What You Need:
Pack of small dinner rolls
Cheddar cheese
Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce
1lb chopped turkey
Garlic powder (to taste)
Salt and pepper (to taste)
Cayenne pepper (to taste)
Onion powder (to taste)
Note: I say "to taste" because everyone's taste buds are different and what may be a lot or a little to me may be the complete opposite to you!

What You Do:
-Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees 
-Mix all of your seasonings and turkey in a bowl and combine well
-Grab a scoop of the turkey mixture and roll and pat them into tiny patties
-Cook the turkey patties on the stove top in a pan until thoroughly cooked
-Open your dinner rolls and place them on a greased cookie sheet 
-Place your cooked turkey patties on each dinner roll and place a slice of cheddar over the top of the patty, followed by a squirt of BBQ sauce.
-Put the top of your roll on top of your layered goodness
-Bake in your oven at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes
-Take them out of the oven and try not to eat all of them by yourself!

Friday Favorites!

Woot woot! Guess what day it is! 
It's Friday, which means time to wrap up that work and be ready to punch out soon because 5 pm is just around the corner. 
Since it is Friday we thought, why not end this week off sharing with you a few of our favorites from this past week that we know you will love just as much as we do. Take a look... 


Favorite Recipe:
Greek Yogurt Pepperjack & Caramelized Onion Dip..does your mouth water when you say that too? This recipe is super easy and I feel like it would be a horrible tragedy if you didn't get to sit down and enjoy this bowl of goodness at least once in your life.

Favorite Outfit:
This outfit is perfect in so many ways! It is simple and classic yet the powder blue coat and camel scarf add a pop and softness to the mostly black ensemble. The hat adds some playfulness to the outfit and that cross body purse? Puuurrrfect!  

Favorite Find:
If it is fabulous and it is free than it's for me! Free gorgeous and fun wallpapers for your computer. The only hard part is deciding which one to use! 

Favorite Makeup Tip:
I'm sure you know, contouring is huge now. What some people may not know though is that your face shape depends greatly on how you should be contouring. This chart comes in handy when choosing which way to contour and deciding which option works best for you and your face shape.

Favorite Hair Style:
I am a huge fan of braids but this one just takes the cake! Tousled fish tail with a twist? Yes please!

For Smooth Tight Skin, Just Head To Your Kitchen

Cellulite sucks and I'm sure you would agree! But I am going to let you in on a little secret. You can prevent it, improve the appearance of cellulite, and create smooth skin without getting some crazy and expensive procedure done. Just go to your kitchen. Yep, you heard me. Head to your kitchen and get ready to create the most moisturizing and luxurious scrub for your skin for pennies, did I mention that it only requires two ingredients too?! 

What You Need:
-1 cup freshly ground coffee 
-1/2 cup warmed coconut oil

What You Do:
-Combine your two ingredients into a clean dry jar and mix until evenly combined.
-While in the shower, apply your mixture in a circular motion onto your body hitting the trouble spots for about 20 seconds
-Rinse off completely, dry, and moisturize as usual.

There you have it. Easy enough, right? Just use this as a part of your daily routine and you will be smooth and reduce signs of cellulite before you know it!

Ease Stress By Incorporating This Into Your Daily Life



We all want to ease stress and keep anxiety far far away. Some days of course this is easier said than done, but with these quick and easy tips and tricks you can find yourself more calm and keep anxiety at bay resulting in a healthier and stress free you!

Smell:

Grab some essential oils and take a wiff of this.....

Vanilla- Helps you fall asleep faster and soothes instantly

Lavender- Neurological studies have proven that lavender oil affects the brain increasing drowsiness resulting in relaxation and a peaceful sleep.

Cucumbers- Reduce anxiety and induce relaxation.

Lemongrass- People often feel soothed by the scent of lemongrass inducing relaxation.

Eat:

Chamomile and Green Tea- These teas contain natural herbs that reduce stress levels and can comfort us both physically and mentally.

Celery- Did you know that celery was used as an antidote back in the day to reduce anxiety and stress? Nutritionist today recognize this and recommend celery as a great food to eat in order to lower blood pressure, thus leading to an increased ability to relax.

Bananas- As we discussed in an earlier post, bananas are an incredible mood booster. They contain both potassium and magnesium, two of natures natural muscle relaxers which in turn relaxes your body and soothes your mind. They also contain tryptophan promoting serotonin in the brain, our body's happy booster.

Do:

Exercise- Exercising and doing cardio, even if you are just going for an afternoon walk, increases blood flow and with a good diet leads to a healthier body. A healthy body = a healthy mind and an increase in blood flow allowing a clear mind and more energy.

Quit Cigarettes- We all know cigarettes are bad for you and a hard habit to kick when you have been smoking for a while. The chemicals in cigarettes lead to a number of health issues and shrinks arteries reducing blood flow. By quitting smoking you will not only feel better physically, but you will also feel better mentally in a very short matter of time. 

Have Sex- "Medically speaking"...sex increases blood flow and releases chemicals in the brain that increase your mental performance. Sex also releases endorphins increasing cognitive functions, reduce pain, and gets rid of stress.

3 Apps To Help You Win At Life

Life can be crazy and hectic, so having a few tools on your side to decrease the craziness and maintain structure is always important. Don't you agree? 
With the abundance of technology out there today schedules, saving money, and organization can come just a bit easier if you know which ones will benefit you the most. 
Today I'm going to take the search time out and give you a list of apps to help you "win at life."


1.) Cozi Family Organizer- 
Keep track of everyone in your household's schedules, activities, and appointments, share and create to do lists, grocery lists, and chores all in real time, as well as update and access all of this from your phone or computer. Sounds good huh? Color code each family member for easy viewing, and send your updates and reminders to anyone in your family too. This is a total organizing must have!


2.) Good Rx- Good Rx:
All you have to do is download the Good Rx app on your smart phone. Start by searching for the medication prescribed to you, next enter the dosage, the supply amount, and your location. Just like that the app pulls up the closest pharmacies near you, the lowest prices, and a coupon code to show to the pharmacist that will dramatically decrease the cost of your medication (insurance or no insurance). You can also head over to the Good Rx site and print out a discount card that everyone in your family can use, even your pets!  


3.) Key Ring Rewards Card-
Hate carrying around all those reward cards? This app is for you! Just scan your reward cards into the app and it stores them all in one place right there on your phone. The app also provides you with coupons and reminders of when they expire, shows you weekly sales at your favorite local stores, and plan shopping trips to make sure you are getting the best deals on the items you need. Everything you need in one little push of a button, sounds good right?

How To Kiss That Cold and Flu Buh-Bye! Naturally!




It's cold and flu season and if you are anything like me you hate shoving tons of meds in your face. Since taking medication is something many try to steer clear from, I have come across a few natural yet effective ways to ease cold and flu symptoms and get you back to feeling your healthy self again.

Sinus infection:

Tea Tree Oil- This oil works against viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Sinus infections can be one or a combination of all of these.To help fight this nasty and painful bug just do the following.
Boil water on the stove
Add a few drops of oil to the boiling water
Place a towel over your head and a bowl of the hot oil and water combo as you breathe in the steam. 

Coughing:

Lemons- Packed with vitamin C immune boosting qualities, lemons are naturally anti-viral and anti-inflammatory.
Raw Honey- An anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and full of antioxidants =  the champion of cough and cold fights.
Coconut Oil-  With anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, anti-viral, and anti-inflammatory properties coconut oil is the perfect match for combating colds and viruses. It has even been said that coconut oil can kick the immune system into over drive by increasing white blood cell counts, which knocks out viruses and infections. Fight coughs with this little remedy that packs a big punch.
4 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
1/3 Cup Honey (Preferably Raw)
2 Tablespoons Coconut Oil
Stir all ingredients on a stove on low until well combined and melted. Administer as needed or when cough is persistent (honey is not recommended for those under the age of 1) 
Sore Muscles Related to Colds and Flu:
Eucalyptus Oil- Eucalyptus essential oil helps soothe aches and pains that come hand in hand with colds and flu. Add Eucalyptus oil to an Epsom salt bath to soothe aches and pains. Place 15 drops of eucalyptus oil  in a tablespoon of coconut oil and add to a warm bath with two cups of Epsom salt. You can also rub a few drops of eucalyptus oil mixed with coconut oil onto the bottom of your feet and then putting on socks before bed to ease coughing.

The Mega Mood Booster


Life is stressful and we often find ourselves so wrapped up in our everyday chores and work that we tend to forget to take care of our bodies and our mind. 
Have you ever found yourself feeling blue? Often times we can help boost our moods all by changing what we eat and/or what we add and subtract from our diet. 
Although this is not intended to be a solution to replace other sorts of depression treatments, studies are showing more and more how the foods that we put into our body greatly effect our mood. It is amazing the deference that you can feel both mentally and physically when putting greater effort and thought into what you put into your body. 
With that said, I want to introduce to you a fantastic smoothie mood picker upper that is sure to put you back on the track to feeling good both inside and out.  

Mega Mood Booster Smoothie

What You Need:
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup raspberries
1 bannanas
1/2 inch ginger root
1/2 cup water or coconut water
1 squirt of honey

Instructions: 
Grate your ginger.
Toss all ingredients together including ginger and blend well.
Enjoy!

Raspberries- The antioxidant packed raspberry triggers components that regulate serotonin and melatonin levels giving way for a good mood, good sleep, and have been reported as having anti-depressive effects on us humans.
