Interview With PJ Farley Of Trixter

When you meet someone who has been in the music industry for 20 plus years, you know that they have experienced all of the ups and downs, ins and outs.
You also know that to be able to manage staying in the spot light after all this time and continue to be an influential artist today, this person must have the secret that many musicians are constantly on the hunt for who want to make it big in the music industry.
We had the pleasure to sit down with a kick ass dude who has not only been rocking out at venues a majority of his life, but who is also one of the coolest down to earth guys we've met.
Check out how PJ Farley of Trixter has gained success and his views on the music industry today, oh and he also lets us in on a little secret!

When did you start playing bass and when did you know you wanted to get into the music industry?
I started playing bass by default. I think when I was 11, 10 or 11, I think because I started a band with my friends in school and it was like alright you want to play guitar you're playing guitar, you want to play drums, and I was a drummer really, and you're going to be the singer?
So no one wants to be a bass player, ok fuck it, I'll play bass, I'll borrow a bass.
Just like that I got stuck being a bass player, and you know how they say things just happen to work out?
It's not just a saying!

What has been your greatest personal accomplishment in your career so far?
I think, not to sound corny or anything, but I'm pretty proud to um, I mean yeah gold records, touring with all my heroes and stuff, that's great but I think I'm pretty proud that I've always been a part of something that I was genuinely proud to be a part of. I've been in hired gun situations but for the most part I've been involved in something that I've been passionate about and gotten to be taken care of in those positions and that's kind of an unspoken accomplishment.
People are like oh yeah playing in Giant stadium, selling  million records, all that stuff is great, and it is all great but I think the longevity in it and that I've been a musician pretty much all my life.

You've been in the industry for a while, what is the biggest change in your opinion from when you began to now?
Besides for the obvious reasons that nobody buys your record anymore, its changed in the sense that the industry is so different now for the obvious reasons.
It's cool because it is so easy to get your music out there in one way but its so hard to get it to the next level.
It's harder now than it ever was to get to that next level where you know, you're in the machine and you know you got the whole support team behind you. You can get the initial put your record out and get youtube hits and all that stuff but now it is wide open and anyone can make a record even if you suck, make a record, make it sound great, release it on your own and put it out there, so there is so much music out there but it is so much harder, and it was always hard, it was hard to go and get that million dollar record deal that people always dreamed of but it is so much harder now because really at the end of the day when I started there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and now there isn't.
Even if a new band got signed to Universal today, even if they were successful, they still probably don't have shit.
It's really hard because music has the same impact on people that it ever has, when you hear a song that you grew up with that you love it stays with you. So if you hear a new song today, it gives you a certain feeling, you love it and it doesn't get watered down by the fact that it's free or anything like that, but the fact is that it is so much harder for artists to make music on a consistent basis because who's paying at this point? Who's paying us to take time off from how we make money, pay our bills, it's so much harder to get it done.
You do something and you feel great about it...I'm just finishing my first solo record and I'm excited about it, I love it, I think it's going to be fantastic, but I also know to cut off the excitement at some point. I'm just happy it's done, its going to be out there, and I just want the people who are going to hear it to like it.
I don't care how many people it is, of course I would like it to be millions but I'm smarter than that, and there is kind of a sadness to that. A record coming out doesn't have an impact like it used to but you know you do it for the truest form. Do it for the love.

Tell me about your most recent album with Trixter "Human Era" and what people who haven't listened to it yet can expect.
It kind of snuck up on us because we weren't really planning on doing a record and then our label, Frontier Records, just really called and asked if we wanted to do another one and we were like alright and we did a record and it wound up being somehow really like the best thing we ever did and we all agree it is our best record and it all happened magically. We didn't plan on doing it, we came up with it, and it has this little kind of concept that we've never had before.
We have the title track which we never had before, it has all these cool little elements that is new for us and there is some stuff that is a little heavier, there is some stuff that's typical Trixter, there is a common thread through it that people have who have heard it say it is different but it is still the same and sounds like Trixter, it's not pretentious or forced. It's pretty natural

Tell me a little bit about this solo album!
My solo album.
::Big smile::
You look so happy and proud when you talk about it!
I haven't really talked that much about it yet because I want to wait until I'm really kind of done and now I'm starting to prepare for some sort of release tactic but it's something that I've been working on for 10, 12 years, slowly, started off doing a couple songs in 2002 and then 2003  and then our band was on the road with Ra and that kept me on the road for a long time so I kind of put my thing to the side and any time I had free time I'd get to it.
Really what made me get back to it and finish it was after we finished the Human Era record, I stayed in the studio and I was like I have a couple more songs that I want to record and put this thing together finally and there is really no other time to release a record when no one is buying them so I figured strike while the iron is cold.

Aside from the solo album what do you have in store for the future?

Trixter, not to say we are taking a break by any stretch, but we are going to scale back a little bit. This year I think we are going to focus on doing  a lot of European shows. We've never been to Europe, we are going to South America, Italy in April, Sweden in July I think, we are going to the UK in October. So next year I think we are going to all these new places that in 25, 26 years we've never been. So that's going to be cool, a new chapter there. I don't have too many plans with my solo record and touring or doing shows, but I'm sure I will at some capacity.

Any last words for your fans?
Thanks for listening, thanks for paying attention, anyone that's interested in anything I have to say, I appreciate it. Sincerely.

Rock Allegiance 2015 Rocks P.A.

Ever wonder what it would be like to be surrounded by a crowd of iconic musicians all in one place?
With festivals like Rock Allegiance there was no longer a need to wonder.
With bands like Korn, Rob Zombie, Papa Roach, and Butcher Babies to name a few, Chester, PA braced themselves this year as a few of the worlds favorite bands took the stage.
Brookhaven Police Dept. even took to social media attempting to comfort those in the surrounding area who were startled by the roaring voices of none other than Jonathan Davis and Rob Zombie engulfing the mountains.

Those who were deprived of ever hearing such passionate and talented musicians plugged their ears and made complaints as a sold out arena of fans rushed the gates to get a glimpse of their favorite artists and hear the songs that inspired them, motivated them, and got them through times of both good and bad.
With a line up like this there was no wonder the air spiraling through PPL Arena was saturated with pure adrenaline and anticipation.

Beginning the day with interviewing Carla and Heidi from the Butcher Babies as well as the guys in From Ashes To New (interviews to come soon!)
was only the start to what was bound to be a day to go down in rock concert history.

From Ashes to New had their fans blaring with excitement as they took the stage in their home state of PA belting out their songs of positive inspiration in their rap-rock / alternative metal style that impressed both long time listeners of the band as well as new.

Butcher Babies showed each and every concert goer how to "take it like a man" delivering their unmistakable energy and emotion while fans echoed their favorite songs and front women Carla and Heidi presented their famous boisterous and heavy vocals.
Maria Brink took the stage with her band In This Moment.  Adorned in her well known seductive and theatrical attire Maria put on a performance that entertained fans as she serenaded the crowd with songs such as Big Bad Wolf and Whore.

Papa Roach sucked in their audience as they dominated the west stage.
Playing everything from Last Resort to Gravity featuring Maria Brink, they had the crowd screaming for more.
With his unparalleled stage presence and impressive vocals Jacoby Shaddix did not disappoint.

The sun seemingly slipped behind a curtain of darkness as day suddenly turned to darkness.
Only the glow of vibrantly colored stage lights consumed the arena.
Bands such as Five Finger Death Punch, Hollywood Undead, and Godsmack shook the summit to its core as fans created a wave of flying fists and crowd surfing bodies throughout the venue.

It was 9:30 pm when Korn took the stage triumphantly captivating the audience with their mesmerizing and unmistakable sound playing favorites such as Shoots and Ladders and Freak On A Leash.

Last and certainly not least was Rob Zombie.
If you have ever been to a Rob Zombie show before, you know that when he hits the stage his presence oozes with an intense and captivating rock metal vibe unlike that of others.
With years of experience under his belt Rob and the band seized the eyes and ears of tens of thousands of people at this sold out event.
Viewers fed upon the band's heavy and remarkably unique sound that is known to be true to every one of the their noteworthy performances.
Nothing could have concluded the evening more appropriately than an encore by the legend himself, roaring Dragula as a thundering shower of fireworks lit up the night sky.

If one thing is certain about what Rock Allegiance and this years performers accomplished and proved, it is that nothing beats that of a family of talented and passionate rock stars and the bond that they have among their fans.

The count down begins for Rock Allegiance 2016!

Album Reviews and Exciting Releases - Tuesday Trends

Korn began celebrating the 20th anniversary of their 1994 self-titled album with shows all throughout 2014.
They have just announced that they will be wrapping up this commemoration with yet another tour that kicks off this fall!
During this final leg of the tour, Korn will be performing the entire debut album in full at every stop. On October 1st, Suicide Silence and Islander will be opening up the tour for Korn in Chicago.
A limited number of tickets and early entrance packages went on sale in late July as well as regular tickets to the show.
These tickets are selling out fast, get yours HERE.
On September 4th, Iron Maiden released their sixteenth studio album titled The Book Of Souls.
This new album is the first double album that this heavy metal British band has ever released in their four-decade career.
The Book Of Souls total length is 92 minutes long, and is totally worth your time.
The quality of the album itself lives up to all heavy metal fans’ expectations.
You can purchase their new album HERE.

As we have previously stated in last week’s article, The Wonder Years have released their newest album "No Closer To Heaven" on September 4th and will be going on tour this October in support of the new album.
No Closer To Heaven is the bands follow up album to their 2013’s critically acclaimed The Greatest Generation.
It is hard to sum up in to words the feeling to which this album brings when listening to it in one sitting.
No Closer To Heaven is so densely packed with emotion, and filled with sad yet beautiful lyrics that it is physically and emotionally draining.
Front man Dan “Soupy” Campbell is no stranger to depression and uses his emotions as inspiration to write his songs.
This album is, in part, a memorial for Dan’s lost friend Mike Pelone, but messages of regretting past mistakes and being angry at the twisted world were other factors that helped to create this album. Check out No Closer To Heaven HERE.

Pop-punks breakout band, State Champs, have announced the release of their brand new record coming out this fall!
With the success of their first full length album, The Finer Things, and a fantastic acoustic EP, there is no doubt that fans will be pleased with this next project titled Around The World And Back.
State Champs released a single off this new album called “Secrets” which gives a preview of what to expect for the rest of the album.
You can check out their latest single HERE or just sit back and enjoy the video below.

Black Sabbath Announces "The End" Tour

Black Sabbath, the pioneers of heavy metal, has just announced that they will be hitting the road one last time for “The End” tour.

So far the band has announced 24 tour dates starting in North America this January and ending in New Zealand in April.
Although the tour does not feature any shows in Europe, including their native city of Birmingham, they will be announcing more stops of the tour next month.
In a video on their website, the band promises that this final tour will “…surpass all previous tours with their most mesmerizing production ever. When the tour concludes, it will truly be the end.”

The English rockers, famous for their deafening guitar solos and dark lyrics, have stated that “The End” tour would feature three of the band’s four longtime members – Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler.
Drummer Bill Ward was not listed to perform during this final tour.
They have not specified who will be taking his place during “The End” tour but Tommy Clufetos, from Osbourne’s solo group, played all previous dates.
Osbourne indicated previously that the group would also be recording a final album.
Last September he stated that the band was to start writing sessions in early 2015.
There has been no mention of a new record since the declaration of the tour.

So, what do you think about Black Sabbath rocking out for one last time across the globe?
Do you think it will truly be their best yet?
Will they go out with a bang? Let us know your opinion!

Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival

Most music festivals center on a certain sound.
Vans Warped Tour pushes all types of rock genres just as Summer Jam features hip-hop/R&B.
The first-ever Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival offered something more inclusive.
This festival celebrates pop, a term that has come to be defined as any sound that sparks a hit. Billboard will, for the first time ever, present a concert lineup including a ton of today's biggest artists as well as artists who are currently heating up their legendary Hot 100 charts!
This fest featured everyone from The Weekend, Justin Bieber, Skrillex, and Nicki Minaj, to The Maine, Ryn Weaver, and even Cruisr!

This festival debuted last Saturday, August 22nd, at Jones Beach with record-breaking numbers.
The first day of this music festival smashed single-day attendance records at Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.

More than 17,000 fans filled this giant outdoor amphitheater to jam out to their favorite artists as well as witness some memorable performances.
Little did they know they would be making history!

Billboard is the latest to enter the widely expanding music festival business, which features big events such as Lollapalooza, Firefly, Bonnaroo, Coachella, and many others. The iHeartRadio Music Festival is another big one that is gaining popularity in Las Vegas every year.
We can't wait to see what is in store for these festivals in the years to come!
Can you?!
