Update A Room In 4 Steps For Less
Have a room in your home that is in dire need of a facelift but the idea of shelling out tons of money makes you put your redecorating plans on the back burner? If so todays post is for you! Follow these quick, easy, and inexpensive tips and tricks to get that out of date room looking brand new in a matter of 1 day and a few bucks.
1.) Paint - It is amazing how much a fresh coat of paint can spruce up and completely change the look of a room. I personally love painting walls with a nice neutral shade and then decorating with pops of bright and bold colors. The above color is my favorite (shaker beige by Benjamin Moore, approx $38.99/gallon) and it goes well with any color palette you choose. After painting the walls be sure to also touch up any trim and moulding with a fresh coat of white paint as well. Also, if you are not sure as to how much paint you should purchase be sure to record the measurements of the room that you are working on and head over to your local home improvement store. By giving the paint specialist your measurements you will know exactly how much paint you need to purchase and avoid having to go back to the store half way through your project.
2.) Linens, rugs, curtains, and pillows - Use these items to add a pop of color and fun to any room. Create your own custom pillows as mentioned here, and/or no sew curtains with this clip ring set and this tutorial. Also, with a low pile rug like this one, an amazing stencil, and some spare paint, you can create your own custom rug as well for a great price!
3.) Spray paint- Spray paint is a miracle worker. It is my go to for updating hardware such as door knobs, cabinet pulls, and light fixtures. Buh bye old out of date gold knobs, hello ORB knobs! (I love Rustoleum's Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint and it is usually what I recommend) Remember to always spray paint in a well ventilated area (preferably outside), keep your spray can approximately 9" away from the item that you are spraying and keep that arm going for a nice even coat, cover anything that you do not want painted, and do one coat at a time while letting each coat fully dry for the best results.
4.) Flowers- Nothing brightens and cheers up a room more than a beautiful vase full of flowers. Head to your local grocery store and pick up a nice bright and full bouquet of colorful blooms for around $6. Once you add this final touch to the rest of your room makeover, I guarantee this room will be your newest favorite room in the house! Now just sit back and enjoy!
